Toutle River
Toutle to Tower Bridge, Class IV
11 miles - 4 hours, March - April
From the start of the rafting this is a challenging river with a great story to tell. You'll witness the power and devastation of the Mt. St. Helens mud flow. The water churns through a disquieting panorama of twisted bridges, remnants of houses, and devastated landscape. Life has returned to the Toutle River. You'll share the river with eagles, hawks and Great Blue Heron. Not only a challenging whitewater excursion, but a breathtaking educational experience as well. Only the powerful strength of a volcanic mud flow can create the style of waves you'll enjoy on the Toutle River!

Toutle River Rendezvous Instructions
Where to Meet:
Allow one hour from Portland's north end and two and a half hours from Seattle. Your guides will meet you at the bridge over the south fork of the Toutle River near the town of Toutle. Take I-5 to Castle Rock's exit, #49. Go east on HWY 504 through the town of Toutle and turn right across from the Shell Gas and Grocery onto South Toutle River Road. Follow this road for about 3/4 of a mile and cross the south fork of the Toutle River. Pull into the parking area on the right side of the road next to the bridge. We’ll have your wetsuit/booties waiting for you from our “rolling rental shop” (no presizing needed!) so just show up with a swimsuit or T-shirt/running shorts (something that can get wet) under your street clothes and we’ll take care of you from there when you get signed in.
Lunch:
We provide everything you could possibly want for lunch on the river whether carnivore of vegetarian. Our caterer prepares a scrumptious and varied array of food including BBQ’d meats, burgers, dogs or veggie burgers, fresh vegetables and dip, melons and fruits, breads, chips/salsa, and water or lemonade to drink. No alcohol is served. If you have special dietary needs just let us know and we'll be happy to try to accommodate you. The morning trip meets at 9am, goes rafting and finishes with the BBQ afterwards - and for the 1pm trip come hungry at 1pm for the BBQ then rafting later in the heat of the day.
